First impressions of Thaketa Township
After the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) had requested us to see how experiences with climate adaptation in the Netherlands could benefit Yangon, our team of The Water Agency decided to make a first explorative trip to the Thaketa Township in Yangon to gain an impression of the various water and climate challenges.
As we quickly learnt during our trip, people in Thaketa do really face the extremes of too much water and too little water on a daily basis. On the one hand, people seek to protect their houses from flooding by making various types of barriers around their property, while on the other hand, they collect water from the lake and store rainwater to manage scarcity of water supply.
