There are, of course, the ships: huge in size and rich in features. There is also the expansive nature, which is home to dozens of animals and plants. Hundreds of commuters, tourists and day trippers visit the port every day. Come and discover the port too!

World Waternet works with Waternet experts to support public water organisations by offering sustainable, integral water solutions. We are the connecting link between Waternet expertise, (co-)funders and global water issues.

We believe that worldwide access to safe water and sanitation is essential to human health, environmental sustainability and economic prosperity. World Waternet was founded to help combat global water challenges. The better we respond to these challenges, the greater the chance we can provide clean water services for all.

We work with our Waternet experts to support public water organisations by offering sustainable, integral water solutions. We do this by providing expertise of the whole water cycle.

Affiliated to Waternet

World Waternet was founded in 2007 on the initiative of the regional public water authority Amstel, Gooi and Vecht (AGV) and Waternet, the public water company of Amsterdam and surroundings. Waternet provides water services to 1.3 million people and is the only water company in the Netherlands that covers the entire water cycle. World Waternet uses the expertise of both organisations, Waternet and AGV, to help improve the performance of foreign public water organisations.

World Waternet is a not-for-profit organisation with an independent Supervisory Board. World Waternet has a project-based staffing agreement with Waternet, which allows for Waternet employees to contribute to World Waternet projects on an annual basis.

There have been emerging issues in the water and sanitation field of Myanmar affected by the climate change, such as deterioration of raw water quality for city water (high turbidity due to heavy rain and salination), or by increasing amount of effluent discharge to rivers from factories due to infrastructure development. Yet the technology to manage the environment in order to properly grasp such affects is still lacking.

MW Aqua Solutions, as a group company of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, will contribute to improving the sustainability through introduction of environment-oriented technology by promoting development of water infrastructure based on on-site water supply system together with highly reliable water quality analysis business in Myanmar.

The GFC—under the Prosperity Fund—aims to address transport, urban planning and resilience in 19 cities around the world. In Myanmar, Yangon is the targeted city with focus on heritage in urban development and flood resilience.

In particular, the programme aims to assist city planning by developing integrated interventions on heritage in urban development and flood resilience.

The primary objectives of the Programme include helping cities grow in a sustainable manner, improving residents' quality of life, addressing poverty and improving gender equality. Additionally, the Programme aims to create two-way investment and trade opportunities with international businesses.

The programme is currently in its Strategic Development Phase implemented by a global team with UN-Habitat as strategic partner. Partners include the UK Built Environment Advisory Group (UKBEAG) as the professional partner and the International Growth Centre IGC) as the academic partner. During this phase, the final interventions under the two thematic areas will be clearly defined and the Statement of Requirements will be developed. From November the programme will enter the Implementation Phase which will include a procurement process towards the end of 2018 and beginning of the on the ground work by mid-2019.

A strong coalition of Dutch companies and organisations has signed an agreement to jointly invest and collaborate in a comprehensive 3-year program to support the Yangon Regional Government in addressing critical challenges related to Urban Water and Water Logistics. The agreement is signed under the Dutch government Partners for International Business (PIB) program.

The agreement delivers on a promise by the coalition to H.E. Phyo Min Thein, the Regional Chief Minister of Yangon, in June this year, when he visited the Netherlands (LINK). During this visit, he requested Dutch expertise and advise on key topics related to Urban Water: water supply, water resources, water governance and water innovation; and Water Logistics: Yangon sea port, river transport, river dredging and river tunneling.
