Nuffic is the Dutch organisation for internationalisation in education. It is an independent, non-profit organisation based in The Hague, the Netherlands. Nuffic plays an important role in fostering international cooperation in education between the Netherlands and other countries.

Nuffic is part of the Dutch education field. Its goal is to support Dutch institutions and the Dutch government in internationalisation activities. The focus of its service lies in the Netherlands, even though its mission extends beyond that. Nuffic cooperates with foreign partners, institutions and governments. The organisation dedicates itself primarily to the Dutch knowledge economy, but at the same time it stimulates capacity building in developing countries.

The project “Capacity building in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) inMyanmar” is funded by Nuffic and implemented by TU Delft, Unesco-IHE and Deltares and will be half way in August 2017. In those first 2 years’ staff of two universities (YTU and MMU) are strengthened, curricula and courses of the universities in Water Resources Engineering are adapted and new type of educational methods are introduced. This capacity building project is being conducted parallel with other projects of the Dutch water sector in Myanmar.

The Young Expert Programmes consist of YEP Water and YEP Agrofood. The main goal of both programmes is to offer young Dutch and local professionals the opportunity to take their first steps in an international environment. They are employed through Dutch organisations in a number of eligible countries. The programmes aim to rejuvenate the Water & Agrofood sectors and ensure the continued availability of expertise for these sectors.

The Young Expert Programmes are open to Dutch Young Experts and Local Young Experts from any of the eligible countries. There is a difference in the selection process for both. Local Young Experts apply by approaching Dutch organisations, who conduct their own selection process, and Dutch Young Experts apply when new vacancies are posted online.

Impact Terra is a fast growing start-up technology company. We at Impact Terra develop and implement mobile solutions for farmers, agribusinesses and other agricultural stakeholders. Our mission is to improve the livelihoods of rural population and improve food security and safety.

We use smartphones and our proprietary mobile app platform to support millions of farmers, retailers, and other users in their daily business and information requirements. As Myanmar is leapfrogging from no to full connectivity and 100% smartphone use, we believe we can have an incredible positive impact on the lives of millions of people. We work with NGOs, CSOs and other parties to provide users with the information they need.

Our Golden Paddy platform (“Shwe Thee Nhan”) provides users with an easy-to-use visual interface and real-time and targeted content such as weather forecast, input product prices, crop market prices, product information, farming best practices, news, risk announcements, financing and more. Currently Golden Paddy operates through three different channels; a mobile application, mobile website and Facebook page.

Due to the need for more smart data measurements and analyses to be able to adequately choose the most sustainable solutions for water and resource management, Ministry of Transport and Communication (MOTC), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC) are working together with TU Delft and the partners of VPdelta to jointly develop smart ways to collect these data. The project called “Leapfrogging Delta Management in Myanmar” was initiated by TU Delft, FutureWater and HKV Consultants, and funded under the Partners for Water program by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

In response to the request of the NWRC in Myanmar and the interest of Dutch innovative enterprises, the project’s main aim is to extend the current work in the Bago-Sittaung to the whole Ayeyarwady Delta in accordance with the agreement between the Myanmar and Dutch governments. The aim is to test and demonstrate innovative smart information solutions in the Delta and disseminate the results widely. Coalitions are created around specific information products (e.g. rainfall, erosion, subsidence). In each coalition, partners work on innovative monitoring: to combine remote sensing, ground data collection with modelling techniques.

The results of the project will be presented in an online platform to disseminate the products and services to a local and international audience. Throughout the entire project Dutch and Myanmar experts and young professionals will work together (learning-by-doing) and dissemination and training will be organized.

The collaborators of the project are: Myanmar National Water Resources Committee (NWRC), MOTC, DWIR, MOALI, MONREC, Irrigation Technology Center (Bago), Yangon Technological University, Myanmar Maritime University, VPdelta, TU Delft, Disdrometrics, FutureWater, Akvo, SHORE Monitoring & Research, Mobile Water Management, HKV Lijn in Water, SkyGeo, Wavedroid, VanderSat.

Since 1985, International Rivers has been at the heart of the global struggle to protect rivers and the rights of communities that depend on them.

We work with an international network of dam-affected people, grassroots organizations, environmentalists, human rights advocates and others who are committed to stopping destructive river projects and promoting better options.

We seek a world where healthy rivers and the rights of local communities are valued and protected. We envision a world where water and energy needs are met without degrading nature or increasing poverty, and where people have the right to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

Based in four continents, our staff has expertise in big dams, energy and water policy, climate change, and international financial institutions. We support partner organizations and dam-affected people by providing advice, training and technical assistance, and advocating on their behalf with governments, banks, companies and international agencies. The focus of our work is in Latin America, Asia and Africa.
