14 Aug 18Since 4:30 pm on August 13, high tide occurred in Botataung, Lamadaw township which are situated near Yangon port. Thaketa, Thigungyun, North Okkalapa, South Okkalapa, Pazuntaung, Mingalar Taungnyunt, Kyimyindaing, Hlaing Tharyar, and Taikkyi Townships are located close to Nga Moe Yeik reiver, Hlaing river, Pazuntaung river and Yangon river. Water flowed within some wards of the aforementioned townships, partially submerging homes in low lying areas.

As a result, a great deal of difficulties conducting day to day lives were reported. Yangon night market road along Strand Roads had to shut down as the water kept rising.

Myanmar Port Authority has announced on August 3rd that there is a likely chance of strong high tide during the period of August 10th to August 16th, 2018. They cautioned that it is not a serious level of tide because the highest tide level have reached up to 22 feet above the chart datum in year 2014 and 2015, and this notice is normally issued whenever high tide of Yangon River is expected to reach over 20 feet high above the chart datum.

"Previously, there were incidents that highest tide level reached to 22 feet and now is only 21 feet. If the situation gets worse, we'll announce further notices," said Aung Kyaw Htoo from Myanmar Port Authority.
