22 June 18 - Torrential rain flooded more than 74,000 acres of paddy fields and roads in Hintada district, Ayeyawady region. Sources claimed that water receded from over 43,000 acres of paddy fields in six townships in the district now. "The heavy downpour made flooding worse in addition to inundated mountain stream.

Paddy fields in Hinthada, Zalun, Lemyethna, Myanaung, Kyangin and Ingapu townships were submerged under water. According to initial survey, about 2,633 acres of paddy fields are damaged in the district. We are still conducting the survey to have accurate data of how many acres of paddy fields are damaged in the flood," said San Win, head of Agriculture Department for the district.

"The quagmire seemed to kill paddy plants so we are planning to distribute seeds to replant again," he said. The flood inundated paddy fields owned by farmers in 189 village tracts in the district and most of the damage occurred in Myanaung Township. The department is collecting the damaged acres based on farmland work permit certificates.
