Water floods Magway-Nay Pyi Taw road
12 June 18 - Swelling water from torrential rain flooded Magway-Kanpyar-Nay Pyi Taw and Magway-Myotthit road, halting vehicles till 3 pm, sources said. Most of the passenger buses running from Magway, Salin, Sinphyukyun, Pwintphyu, Minhla, Minbu and Saku to Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw uses the road. A large amount of water flowed through the road from the night of June 10.
During the congestion, a pregnant woman experienced a stillbirth on the ambulance but doctors managed to save the life of the woman. Dr Nyi Nyi Aung, on the way to go to Magway, said, "Someone asked for help to find a doctor as a woman was struggling to give birth to a child. Doctors and OGs were on our bus. They went to the ambulance and found the woman giving birth. A man from our car rang Magway Hospital for medicines and they delivered."
"As far as I know, there are not many cars in Magway bus terminal since this afternoon. Most of the buses went from Kanpyar road. People will not dare to cross the stream as water level is high," said Myint Soe, chairman of Magway bus control committee.
San Lin Tun from Magway said, "I knew that water will flood Kanpyar road so I drove my car to Magway via Kyaukpadaung. I found more than 100 cars were stuck, waiting to pass the water on Kanpyar road."
Locals said transportation is temporarily cut off as a bridge on Kanpar-Nay Pyi Taw road is still under construction.
