Photo Bank erosion occurs near Zalon village

12 June 18Due to riverbank erosion in Zalon village,Pyi Township west of Bago Region, three households had to move quickly and 20 more may have to relocated soon, according to the locals.

There has been strong overflowing of creeks in Zalon village due to heavy rain on June 9th leaving, leading to the collapse of embankments and two houses. "The riverbank has been eroded by the creek. If we will get the budget, we are going to reinforce it. The embankments will be rebuilt after rainy season.

There were three households that collapsed. We negotiated with them to stay temporarily with their relatives. They will have an easier time because the (relief) department will support them. The whole village didn't move," said MP Thet Win Hlaing from Pyi Township.

"About 20 houses may be transferred in an emergency. But, land plots are needed for them but there is none. It will be convenient if the authorities builds a dam and retainers beside the creek," said Hla Min Htet, Zalon village administrator. Administrative affairs, rural region development, Irrigation and Water Utilization and Management, Water Resources, Rivers and Creeks Development, Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement departments as well as Red Cross Associations are now carrying out rescue activities and will be providing cash and other relief items to the victims.
