Myanmar builds US$20.9 M worth offshore fixed pilot station
11 June 18 - Myanmar is building a US$20.9 million worth offshore fixed pilot station, according to Myanma Port Authority (MPA). International bulk carriers enters Yangon port from the mouth of the sea 67 kilometers away from Yangon. Chief navigation officers from the MPA gave command and controlled the carriers to enter and exit the port safely. Currently the MPA has anchored two alternating pilot vessels at the mouth of the sea to control entry and exit of carriers.
At present, more ships have been entering at the Yangon port. The MPA planned to build the three-storey offshore fixed pilot station as it needed more staffs to deploy at the pilot vessels and maintenance costs of the pilot vessels are big.
The offshore station will give advantages such as reducing overall cost and controlling the ships in all weather conditions. The offshore station project included a three-storey building with 33.2 meters in length and 30.4 meters in width, a jetty, a generator, water treatment system, navigation equipments, radar and three pilot boats. The MPA invited tender to build the station and China Harbour Engineering succeeded the tender, sources said.
