Torrential rain causes flooding in northern Shan State
7 June 18 - Torrential rain has flooded some townships in northern Shan State, sources said. The flood seriously occurred in Nantlan village, Sipaw Township and half of the village has been submerged by floodwater.
"The situation is worse than previous two or three days. We cannot go out as roads are full of water. The situation in Matmonhein ward is far worse. Paddy fields have full of water. Although the school is not submerged, students cannot go," said local Sai Khin Maung Oo. Water has flooded in Nantlan village since June 1 and the flood occurred once on June 2 and June 6 respectively.
"The floodwater is caused by torrential rain only and torrent water is not arrived yet. We have no casualties but we have to save an old man and a child, who are drifted in the water. We have a lot of damages," said Myo Myint, who is helping the flood victims.
Locals said almost no flood was occurred in the village before and the flood is occurred due to deforestation. Similarly, rainwater caused flooding along Padauk, Aungsan and Pinlon roads in No.2 ward of Kyaukme Township and water entered into houses. Water also flooded Mandalay-Lashio union road near Kyaukme and buses and trucks are passed the water in turn, said Thet Swe from Oriental Highway in Kyaukme.
