11 April 18 - DHI has just signed the contract for the World Bank funded project "Development of the Ayeyarwady Decision Support System and Basin Master Plan" in Myanmar where DHI in collaboration with Mott Macdonald and ICEM will develop and implement the Ayeyarwady Basin DSS and the Ayeyarwady Basin Master Plan.
The Ayeyarwady River, famous from the song "On the Road to Mandalay" (text by Rudyard Kipling), is the country's largest river and most important commercial waterway. The river is crucial for economic, social and environmental development of the entire country. With only a small fraction of the water resources developed today, the river offers a huge development potential to Myanmar.
The overall objective of the project is to assess development opportunities based on a triple bottom line approach where economic development as well as environmental and social development are all considered.
The project will work closely with the newly established Hydro-Informatics Center (HIC) in Myanmar, providing technology transfer of DHIs state of the art DSS systems providing HIC with the capacity to undertake scientifically based decision support within the basin.
The project will further strengthen DHI's well proven open-ended DSS platform, which is previously implemented in a large number of national and transboundary basins, including: Krishna-Bhima, Bakhra-Beas, Mekong, Red River, Yangtze, Ganges, Danube, Nile, Zambezi and Murray-Darling basins.
