Yangon Regional Chief Minister stated that he will set up Yangon City development plan in line with four disciplines

Yangon Regional Chief Minister H.E U Phyo Min Thein stated that Yangon Regional Government will set up the Yangon City development plan focusing on the following four disciplines: Urban flooding, Drought, Pollution and Water scarcity. The development of this Yangon City development plan will make Yangon City more resilient for natural disasters, climate change and potential sea level rising. This statement was shared by H.E U Phyo Min Thein during the opening address of the Resilient Urban Delta Seminar at the Novotel Hotel in Yangon on 14 February 2018.

Knowledge gap

In present and future, the investments of disaster and climate change related reduction programs are essential to be less exposed to natural disaster phenomena. Moreover, there should be different timelines to the Disaster Reduction Plans: short, medium and long term. It also needs integration with innovative technology and Decision Support Systems to be able to make the right decisions. H.E U Phyo Min Thein stated that he is aware that there is a knowledge gap related to disaster risk reduction management and knowledge transfer and capacity building will play an important for implementation future Disaster Risk Reduction program.

Disaster Management and Climate Change

During the seminar H.E U Phyo Min Thein emphasized the importance of Disaster Management and Climate Change for a Resilient Urban Development of Yangon Region. Therefore is was important that stakeholders e.g. Ayeyarwaddy regional government, Yangon regional government, Ayeyarwaddy Delta Working committee, and Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) presented their projects in the seminar for a sustainable urban development

Yangon City Extension Project

Yangon Regional Chief Minister told that a potential place for establishment of  Yangon City Extension project could be located between Twante Canal and Pan Hlaing river,
