Background and Purpose of Seminar

Since 2015, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Conservation (MONREC) of Myanmar and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) have been promoting bilateral cooperation including the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM). In 2018, with the aim of promoting more comprehensive cooperation, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was signed between the two countries in the field of the environment, and environmental policy dialogues have been conducted since then. Originally starting from JCM and environmental impact assessment (EIA), the fields of cooperation are currently expanding to air, water and waste management including plastics and Johkasou. In addition, the scope of works is also expanding from legal and capacity development to technology adoption including pilot projects. In this context, MONREC and MOEJ will organize an online seminar on environmental technology, back to back to the 4th Myanmar-Japan Environmental Policy Dialogue. The seminar will showcase excellent Japanese technologies on environmental management, aiming to contribute to address environmental issues in Myanmar by adopting such technologies. The seminar will be held in collaboration with Team E-Kansai (Sponsor: Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry; Secretariat: Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC)), which supports the overseas expansion of companies with environmental technology.
