Water and Environment Studies Department put a lot of efforts in improving the teaching practices, which can be helpful in their upcoming course in the coming months at the University of Yangon.

Starting from the first week of November 2020, the six-week "Teaching for Learning" Program had been initiated online together with the staffs of the University of Yangon, VU Amsterdam and The Water Agency.

During the kick-off meeting in March 2020, the participants under the supervision of Dr Seinn Lei Aye have chosen a practice-based curriculum as the main principle for the newly acquired program – BSc for Water Studies.

As a result, provided supports by Dr Anja Swennen and Stephen Eltink from VU Amsterdam, nine institutional staffs from the University of Yangon joined the program to learn more about practice-based curriculum and the core values of practice-based education.

The program was based on the wishes and needs of the participants to make the curriculum interesting and useful. The program contents were agreed upon by the local institutional staffs from the University of Yangon to explore the abilities of how to develop a practice-based curriculum based on theory and their experiences and knowledge clips about, for instance, case-based, project-based and problem-based education.

After the completion upon the study in water and environmental department, the department aims to reveal the four critical characteristics of students to become problem solvers, collaborators, good citizens and active ecologists.

The four-year bachelor program in water studies deferred the timeline due to COVID pandemic and therefore, will start with 50 students in the next academic year.
