Magway region suffers over 1,800 natural disasters in 5 years

27 Nov 2020 - Source: Global New Light of Myanmar - Magway Region has suffered 1,865 natural disasters in five years from 2015-2016 to 2019-2020, according to the Magway Region Disaster Management Department.

The government provided a K2,714.847 million fund to the residents who are adversely affected by the outbreaks of the natural disaster.
"The outbreak of the natural disaster has been increasing year by year. The regional government relaxed the rules and regulations as part of decentralization to be able to assist the residents immediately," said U Myint Soe, the regional head of Magway Region Disaster Management Department.
In the past five years, a total of 580,214 locals from the Magway Region have suffered great woes from the outbreaks of fire, flood, hurricane and tornado, landslide, earthquakes, lightning and other geological processes. Among them, 394 religious edifices have collapsed with 208 people killed, according to the department.
Floods and landslides mostly occurred in the Magway region. Within five years, the government-supported K2309.936 million funds and provided K404.911 million worth rescue items to the suffering residents.
According to the official records of the department, Magway region was faced with 72 occurrences of natural disaster in 2015-2016, 221 in 2016-2017, 320 in 2017-2018, 812 in 2018-2019 and 440 in 2019-2020, according to the Magway region Disaster Management Department. —Zayyatu (Magway) (Translated by Hay Mar)
