VP U Henry Van Thio inspects airport, office construction sites and preparations for Asia-Pacific Water Forum

Vice President U Henry Van Thio yesterday visited the sites on which Hanthawaddy International Airport and the National Water Resources Committee office building will be constructed and inspected preparation to hold the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF). Hanthawaddy International Airport Construction Project Leading Committee Chairman Vice President U Henry Van Thio arrived at the Hanthawaddy International Airport Construction site at 11 a.m.The Vice President was briefed about the Hanthawaddy International Airport Construction Project by Hanthawaddy International Airport Construction Project Leading Committee members Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung, Bago Region Chief Minister U Win Thein and Department of Civil Aviation Director General U Min Lwin in the project briefing hall.In response to the briefing,the Vice President remarked on the need to complete the coordination on remaining matters,implementing the project as soon as possible and resolving the land issues systematically.
The Vice President, Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung, Bago Region Chief Minister U Win Thein then toured the Hanthawaddy International Airport construction site.In the afternoon, National Water Resources Committee Chairman Vice President U Henry Van Thio accompanied by Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung visited a site in Mayangon Township, Yangon Region where the National Water Resources Committee office building is to be constructed. At the site, Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River System Director General U Htun Lwin Oo talked about the site planned for the building,the building design and the estimated cost.Afterwards, Chairman of Steering Committee to hold3rd Asia-Pacific Water Forum Vice President U Henry Van Thio reached Yangon Region government office and inspected preparations made for the 3rd Asia-Pacific Water Forum.Work committees and sub-committees explained preparation works and Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein provided additional explanations.In his comment to the explanations,the Vice President spoke not only of achieving the aim of holding the APWF successfully,but to obtain effective solutions to water problems faced by the country through international cooperation.By reporting on behalf of the Asia-Pacific region, the region's water-related challenges and finding a solution together at World Water Forum to be held in Brazil in 2018, the country's image is raised, as well as raising the honour of the nation, and thus all are urged to do their best in preparing and coordinating for the water forum.The first water forum was held in Japan in 2007 and the second was held in Thailand in2013. The 3rd Asia-Pacific Water Forum hosted by Myanmar will be held from 11 to 12 December,it is learnt.—Myanmar News
