Locals revive Inn Lay floating market in October
10 Oct 2020 - Source: Global New Light of Myanmar - The Inn Lay floating market has returned to a revival after missing for more than a decade, starting from the first week of October during the pandemic period, according to the locals.
Although the local and foreign travellers are interested in the floating market located in Hae Yar Ywar Ma village, Inn Lay Lake, the sellers from the floating market have moved their shops onto the land because there is no water in summer.
Previously, the local people brought their traditional foods, vegetables and other local products in the boats and sold them. Now, there are many souvenir shops carrying boats on Inn Lay waters because they can rely upon tourism, according to the residents.
During the pandemic period, the on-land shops are closed temporarily. The local people are selling their traditional foods and vegetables on the floating market as in those days. Now, the locals started reviving the floating market.
"The market will be in the water in monsoon season and on the land in summer. We will maintain the floating market. We want to urge both the visitors and sellers to wear the masks during this pandemic period. I am delighted to see the floating market again after ten years, said U Soe Myint Oo, a resident from Hae Yar Ywar Ma village.
