Water flows into lower areas of Kani

11 July 2020 - Source: Eleven Myanmar - Water is covered some villages located in lower areas in Kani Township, Sagaing Region since the evening of July 9 as water level in Chindwin River is increased, sources said.

"Lower areas of Sinthay, Kyarmaw, Shwemyinmo, and Kachin villages are covered with water and the markets located in Chaungwa and Kyakite villages are covered with water. The river water is still increasing but slowly. The river water entered ravines, plains and streams and it make the increase of water level slow. The increase of water level will be fast after that," said Sai Ohn Lwin from Kani.

According to weather observation made by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) on July 10, water level of Chindwin River is reached 1,175 centimeters in Kani and it is about 185 centimeters away from the danger level of Kani.

Lower areas of Kani faced floods annually in rainy season.
