Sesame plants in Magway under threat by drought

A ten-day drought in Magway Township is likely to damage the sesame plants, according to the local sesame growers.
"The 45-day-old sesame plants are being faced with the problem of lack of rain this year. Now, it is the blossoming time but we could not get enough rain. Some of the plants are already damaged. This year, the local growers may be faced with the loss of profit because the yield of sesame will decline double," said a local sesame grower.
Although Magway Township Agriculture Department received the information about the damages of the sesame, the department does not have the proper record of damage volume of sesame, according to the Agriculture Department in Magway Township. "The land of the sesame plantation is different. We have to repair the land to suit the weather. We have to change the crops and seeds. We are also providing the awareness training, said an official from the Agriculture Department.
