16 Oct 19 - Source: Global New Light Of Myanmar - Feasibility study on constructing Balaminhtin Bridge No. 2 had begun, according to Kachin State based Special Bridge-Group 1 of the Department of Bridge.

"Hydrographic survey to construct Balaminhtin Bridge No. 2 was contracted to Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement and works had started on this. Arrangements were made to determine the axis of the bridge and road and to produce a scale model. Bridge design work will be coordinated with the head office of Department of Bridge under the Ministry of Construction after soil test works were completed," said Kachin State based Special Bridge Group 1 Deputy Director U Saw Zarni Hla.

In addition to conducting a feasibility study to construct Balaminhtin Bridge No. 2, Special Bridge Group 1 was also conduction maintenance works on Balaminhtin Bridge No. 1. Balaminhtin Bridge No. 2 was planned to be constructed as a steel frame bridge that can withstand 60-tonnes load.

"As a number of vehicles using bridge no. 1 increases, the maximum permissible load is gradually declining.

At the moment, a maximum load of only 35 tonnes was permitted. Lashio-Bhamo-Myitkyina Road will be upgraded to a four-lane road and bridge no. 2 was planned to accommodate the increasing traffic and load," said U Saw Zarni Hla on the new bridge to be constructed.— Kay Kay
