Seminar on Knowledge Sharing for Better Dams held in Yangon

27 May 19 - Source: Global New Light Of Myanmar - Myanmar National Commission on Large Dams (MNCLD) held the Seminar on Knowledge Sharing for Better Dams in Yangon yesterday. In his address, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu said, "The International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to the sharing of professional information and knowledge of the design, construction, maintenance, and impact of large dams."

"It was founded in 1928 and has its central office in Paris, France. It consists of 100 member national committees, he added. The members had already presented 32 research papers including nine papers that were read here, he said.

The Union Minister, on behalf of nation and the public, lauded thanked the members of the commission, who retired from their respective departments, for their intellectual and physical efforts, based on their technological and general knowledge, for the national and public interest. He also honoured all the resource persons of his ministry and Yangon University of Technology.Chairman of Myanmar ICOLD U Win Maung explained the purpose of establishing ICOLD.

U Myo Myint, a resource person, read a paper on Opinion Pieces Relating to Safety of Large Dams, and answered the questions raised by the participants.
Union Minister Dr Aung Thu presented a certificate of honour to U Myo Myint, former Deputy Minister for Electric Power, for his paper. He then posed for group documentary.

Nine persons read papers on dams at the seminar. Also present were patrons and members of the MNCLD, officials of the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management, experts in the field of water and interested persons. Accompanied by Permanent Secretary of the ministry Dr Khin Zaw, Director-General of Fisheries Department U Khin Maw Maw and officials, Union Minister Dr Aung Thu visited the fisheries science school project in Twantay and met with officials of the contractors. He urged them to build the school in accordance with the set standards.

Director-General U Khin Maw Maw and officials of the contractors conducted the Union Minister and party round the project.In response to the reports, the Union Minister said that the school will be the first of its kind in the major fishery zone located between Yangon and Ayeyawady regions. So, the standard will be its image as well as the reputation of the contractors. Contractors should make themselves ready for any quality and financial inspections, he noted.—MNA (Translated by TMT)
