This event will be hosted as part of the Greater Mekong Forum, taking place on December 4 -6 in the Inya Lake Hotel. In this session we will highlight some of the results as well as showcase the measuring tools that were tested and demonstrated in the projects. These pilots will provide policy-makers and other stakeholders with many inspiring and useful ways to gain access to more data and a better understanding on the impact of certain decisions. This session will break the existing paradigm that data collection is expensive and time-consuming – it can also be done low-cost, reliable, high-tech hence leading to smart decision-making!

[About the 2018 Forum]

The Greater Mekong Forum on Water, Food and Energy is the largest annual knowledge-sharing event in the Greater Mekong. It presents research-based evidence to non-governmental organisations, policy-makers, the private sector, and development agencies. It does this through carefully designed and facilitated dialogues.

The 2018 Forum theme is:
Economic Development and the Rivers of the Greater Mekong: The rivers of the Greater Mekong hold great economic value in terms of their hydropower, fisheries, transport and agricultural potential. So too, these rivers are economic and ecological corridors generating immense economic growth for the countries through which they pass. But this economic growth comes with its own social, economic and environmental challenges. The 2018 Greater Mekong Forum on Water, Food and Energy will focus on ways in which these challenges can be addressed through tried-and-tested solutions, knew knowledge generated by research and through a regional, multi-sectoral, multi-stakeholder dialogue.

[Forum purpose]

The purpose of the forum is to:

To create ‘safe’ spaces for stakeholders to come together to informally discuss difficult and controversial water-related discussions.
To network and to promote cross-regional learning on water-food-energy nexus-related issues.
To encourage and facilitate building of networks across sectors and river basins to support future collaborations.
Interface research-based solutions with a non-technical public, policy-makers, and the private sector.
Provide would-be users with an opportunity to deliberate and query potential solutions.
Who attends the Forum?
The forum is designed for knowledge users: government and development agencies, the private sector and research-for-development practitioners. We emphasise deliberation and listening, query and debate.

At the 2017 Forum, we welcomed 431 participants, representing 171 institutions. 7% of our participants were Cambodian, 6% Chinese, 7% Laotian, 34% Myanmar, 7% Thai, 10% Vietnamese and 27% international. The forum attracts participants from the research community, civil society, government and the private sector.

Boasting unrivalled growth opportunities, Myanmar’s water supply & treatment industries are ripe for the taking. MYANWATER 2018 Expo – Myanmar’s No.1 International Water Supply & Treatment Exhibition is your chance to be part of the biggest marketing platform of the industry.

The MYANWATER 2018 Expo is scheduled to be held at the MEP, Mindama, Yangon from the 29th November to the 1st of December 2018. With over 1.07 million households using unimproved toilets, nearly 3.1 million households in Myanmar are in critical need of access to improved water sources.

Emerging from the depths of isolation after decades of junta rule, Myanmar is opening the doors to the outside world, driven by the escalating force of the industrial sector.

Recognised since 2013 as Myanmar’s water industry, biggest and most important international exhibition, this platform plays the medium in delivering innovative solutions to meet the country’s increasing demand for water supply, sanitation & industrial wastewater treatment requirements.

Myanmar’s gross domestic product figures for 2017 is reported at 7.7% while 8% is anticipated for 2018, as projected by the Asian Development Bank. This puts the country greatly ahead of all other countries in the Southeast Asia region in terms of economic growth. With a strong leadership under Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s political party, the nation’s population of 54 million people and a large proportion in the working class, the country has a great capacity and capability to maintain its rapid progress.

Take action today and reserve your ideal booth location at MYANWATER 2018, to let your business prospects flow in Myanmar! Contact M May at [email protected] / +959798435593 or Mr. Darren at [email protected] / +60162454791 for more information.

Dear partner in Water Business in Myanmar,

A new initiative in Yangon, The Blue Networking Drinks, aims to get the international water sector together in Yangon to socialize with each other in an informal setting. The Drinks are organized every second Thursday of the month.

We were very pleased with the large number of people and the wide variety of the group that participated for the previous editions of the Blue Networking Drinks. Our goal is to keep growing bigger with the upcoming editions and make sure that everyone who is involved in the water sector in Myanmar will know and, of course, will enjoy this event.

The next edition is on the 13th of September. If you are interested in attending, subscribe to the mailing list here. If you want to sponsor the coming or one of the following session(s) and present something about your company, send an email to [email protected].

All the best,

The BlueNetworkingDrinks Team
