The Dredging and Reclamation course was held from 15 January to 19 January 2018 at the Inya Lake Hotel, Yangon and organized by the combination of Dutch dredging contractors Boskalis, Van Oord and Dutch Embassy in Myanmar.

The course is developed for professionals in dredging-related industries, aiming to encourage people to enter the field of dredging, and to improve knowledge about dredging throughout the world. Lecturers of the course were Marcel van den Heuvel, Robert Dijkema from Van Oord and Pieter den Ridder from Boskalis.

Although there is a typical amount of dredging-related industries in Myanmar, they have never learnt about international dredging projects (showcases). Additionally, different techniques for land reclamation were discussed.

All 33 Burmese participants enjoyed doing workshops and enjoyed competing with their teams to win the tender contract during the final simulation workshop. During the tender discussions, the participant teams were thrilled and excited to share their visions from their respective field of studies.

Project Information

In this project, the current application of existing international
environmental and social standards in the textile industry in
developing and emerging countries will be investigated. Target
countries are Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam,
China, Morocco, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Turkey. It deals with the complete
textile industry ́s value chain, including the textile manufacturing
process and the supply industry. The situation will be documented in
order to provide concrete recommendations for sustainable
dissemination of environmental technologies in the producing countries
of the textile industry to the German Federal Ministry of Economic
Cooperation and Development. The recommendations for actions are based
on the results of detailed literature and project database, in "Round
Table Discussions" with all actors involved, as well as on site visits
in the target countries. The results of the work are summarized and
evaluated in three "Thesenpapier" and in a final report. Within three
regional workshops in Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Myanmar, the innovative
environmental technologies are being worked out, approaches to
implement the technology are explained and know-how will be
transferred. As an outcome of the project, a network for environmental
standards and dissemination of environmental technologies in the
textile industry in developing and emerging countries will be
established.
