As the Yangon city development is continuing at a rapid pace, the management of water is growing to become a key topic.

With a wide scale of water management challenges still ahead, now is the time to get a good understanding of which colleagues and organisations are covering the different areas of the city regarding wise water management this year.

On Wednesday the 23rd of January, 2019, The Water Agency will host a community of practice session, a o workshop to encourage collaboration, for water professionals in Yangon. Led by experienced host Dr Piet Filet, from Brisbane, Australia, participants will explore the collaborative water agenda set for 2019.

The session is organised with the aim to share and bring light to all the water management activities undertaken in Yangon, match the work efforts to make collaborative benefits for the Yangon and the wider region.

The session will be hosted by:

Dr Piet Filet – water management expert from Brisbane, Australia

During this workshop we will explore the Yangon and regional focus and the collaborative opportunities between various water professionals. In small groups participants will develop a roadmap for Yangon water professionals and organisations based on 4-6 key principals that will be introduced by Dr Filet.

The CoP session gives you an opportunity to meet partners, but also make new connections while you learn what 2019 has in store for Yangon regarding water management. The workshop is open to any water professionals.

Dear partner in Water Business in Myanmar,

A new initiative in Yangon, The Blue Networking Drinks, aims to get the international water sector together in Yangon to socialize with each other in an informal setting. The Drinks are organized every second Thursday of the month.

We were very pleased with the large number of people and the wide variety of the group that participated for the previous editions of the Blue Networking Drinks. Our goal is to keep growing bigger with the upcoming editions and make sure that everyone who is involved in the water sector in Myanmar will know and, of course, will enjoy this event.

The next edition is on the 13th of September. If you are interested in attending, subscribe to the mailing list here. If you want to sponsor the coming or one of the following session(s) and present something about your company, send an email to [email protected].

All the best,

The BlueNetworkingDrinks Team

The Seminar on Resilient Urban Delta Development was jointly Organized by National Water Resources Committee, Yangon Regional Government and Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The expected outcomes of the seminar are:

(i) an enhanced in-depth understanding among participants of different (existing and planned) initiatives for resilient urban development approaches for the delta;

(ii) general requirements for and impacts on water security of these interventions identified and needs for data, information and knowledge, as well as specific models to enable informed decision making on possible measures and interventions in the delta;

(iii) enhanced synergy and coordination between development partners on setting of a knowledge agenda;

(iv) follow-up and next steps towards formulation and formalization of a knowledge agenda, which can be rolled out in the coming years.

Project Information

In this project, the current application of existing international
environmental and social standards in the textile industry in
developing and emerging countries will be investigated. Target
countries are Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam,
China, Morocco, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Turkey. It deals with the complete
textile industry ́s value chain, including the textile manufacturing
process and the supply industry. The situation will be documented in
order to provide concrete recommendations for sustainable
dissemination of environmental technologies in the producing countries
of the textile industry to the German Federal Ministry of Economic
Cooperation and Development. The recommendations for actions are based
on the results of detailed literature and project database, in "Round
Table Discussions" with all actors involved, as well as on site visits
in the target countries. The results of the work are summarized and
evaluated in three "Thesenpapier" and in a final report. Within three
regional workshops in Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Myanmar, the innovative
environmental technologies are being worked out, approaches to
implement the technology are explained and know-how will be
transferred. As an outcome of the project, a network for environmental
standards and dissemination of environmental technologies in the
textile industry in developing and emerging countries will be
established.
