This month’s topic for our 9th Climate Talks organized by Conyat Create will be around Disaster Risk Resilience and Climate Change. Myanmar is exposed to a wide range of natural hazards, triggering different types of small scale to large-scale disasters across the country’s territory. A total of 27 natural disasters have been recorded in twenty years, causing the death of approximately 140,000 people, and affecting the lives and livelihoods of 3.9 million people; an average of 125,000 people a year. Increasing disasters are attributed to a number of factors, mainly of human origin, such as environmental degradation; rapid population increase with subsequent exponential expansion of urban centres and other related factors; all these leading to increased population
vulnerabilities. During this Climate Talk, we will attempt to improve your understanding of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation concepts.
