We would like to raise awareness and action for our global water and sanitation challenges. Currently more than 2.4B people don't have access to clean and safe sanitation, and more than 660M people don't have access to clean and safe drinking water. Especially woman and children feel the burden of collecting clean water as they need to walk kilometers (hours) - and therefore are not able to participate on schools.

The concept is fairly easy - Walking for Water is a walking tour of around 6 kilometers (average distance people walk to collect water) in which they carry 6 liters of water with them. We will walk for water coming Sunday around Kandawgyi lake (6km) and we invite you to join us. Please bring your own water to drink, and perhaps something to eat as well. By carrying it with you this will give you the experience of carrying 6 liters of water for 6 kms.

We will start to walk coming Sunday (17th of March) at 7.00am at (map CoP meeting point) and hope to be back around 9.00am. Our team will bring some reports to share more information about Kandawgyi lake. This will be an informal walk, it will be an achievement to finish a walk around the Kandawgyi Lake. The objective is to raise awareness, meet new people and to have fun and enjoy your own drinks - food afterwards.

Lets explore together if we can do this next years as a fundraising walk, and include many schools as well. Walking for Water is an awareness and fundraising initiative in the Netherlands. School children aged 10-15 are sponsored by friends and family to walk six kilometres while carrying six litres of water in a backpack.
